In 2024, Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District (BID) and Redcliffe & Temple BID launched Bristol Cargo Bikes for Business, supporting businesses in Bristol to switch to sustainable delivery methods.
The project provided subsidies to businesses that switch to using cargo bikes to receive or deliver their freight, offering free consultancy to help businesses make informed decisions about integrating cargo bikes into their supply chain, helping to save time and money, improve local air quality and congestion, and reduce carbon emissions.
WHY CARGO BIKES?
Cargo bikes produce no tailpipe emissions in use, and produce vastly less lifecycle emissions (from production, etc) than even electric vehicles. They also help reduce congestion, improve local air quality, and reduce noise pollution.
Cargo bikes can help save businesses time by beating city traffic, by using cycle infrastructure, bus gates and traffic filters. They’re also cheaper to buy, fuel, insure and maintain. Additionally, using a cargo bike adds physical activity to the working day, helping improve staff physical and mental health. And they’re fun to ride!
CASE STUDIES
BBC STUDIOS
BBC Studios has switched to using Zedify's cargo bike delivery service for deliveries between their sites in Bristol. With our support, they have replaced the traditional van courier service with cargo bike. The feedback from internal staff has been positive - the cargo bikes have been able to accommodate much more than their staff expected, and Zedify has provided constant updates during deliveries. The cost has been significantly lower than their previous supplier and BBC Studios has decided to continue using Zedify for future deliveries.
DOUBLE PUC
Double Puc operates several cafes in Bristol and currently uses Zedify as a courier service for internal stock movements and external catering orders. They have received a subsidy for switching their bakery supplier to Pinkmans, as they were unsatisfied with their previous supplier. Pinkmans also delivers using Zedify, which reduces the number of vehicle trips to and from Double Puc and increases their use of cargo bikes.
HILL & VALE
Hill & Vale offer wholesale and home delivery of spices and spice blends. As a young and growing company, their founder Angus was making deliveries to restaurants and shops across the city using his private car, which was taking up a significant amount of time. By switching to Zedify’s cargo bike delivery service, Hill & Vale have reduced their local emissions and now have more time to focus on growing their business.
